Post-Election Job Hike

Posted by Will Dolby on 20/05/15 14:08

Well, that was a turn up for the books wasn’t it? Not many predicted a majority win in this years election. The recruitment industry certainly didn't. It slowed following concerns and uncertainty around a hung parliament.

But with Mr Cameron still able to call 10 Downing Street home and the dust settling after a long (very long) election campaign, we might all breathe a sigh of relief. Mainly because it’s now over.

The job market is definitely showing signs of relief too, with Reed reporting that the number of jobs posted has increased 20% on the weekly average before the election. That's 51,534 jobs in case you were wondering.

Impact of the General Election on the recruitment sector

Good news indeed.

Especially for the IT, Sales and Technology sectors which saw the biggest increase in jobs posted.

We’re not out of the woods yet though. The prospect of a referendum on the UK’s membership in the EU in the next two and a half years, casts a distinctly gloomy shadow over this good news.

We’ll have to wait and see how this affects the job market and the potential uncertainty it brings with it.

In the meantime, this video continues to make us smile (as does a buoyant job market, obviously)…
